Emmerich am Rhein, 04.12.2019 The Emmerich based pet specialist H. von Gimborn GmbH had to release eleven employees with immediate effect for operational reasons today. The management informed the workforce on the restructuring at a staff meeting this morning. The compulsory redundancies are coordinated with H. von Gimborn’s works council and are thus conducted as socially acceptable as possible.

The background of the restructuring is an unexpected drop in sales in the Chinese market in the current year. Internationally active H. von Gimborn GmbH records a continuous growth in all its core markets. The liquidity of the company is sustainably secured. The management expressly regrets the step announced today. Apart from that, management is confident that it will be able to continue the growth of recent years in 2020.

H. von Gimborn GmbH is taken over by Hillhouse Capital Group

H. von Gimborn GmbH, successful pet specialist in Emmerich am Rhein, Germany is taken over by the Hillhouse capital group. The previous owner, Penta Investments, sold Gimborn retroactively to January 1st, 2016 to the Chinese investment firm, a long-term equities investor focused on the consumer, technology, healthcare and financial sectors. Hillhouse maintains a significant presence in Asia. The purchase price was not disclosed.

Gimborn was the first German company at all, which has been granted in 2015 already an official license from the authorities to introduce pet snacks, such as functional SnackPastes for cats, in China. Gimborn is glad to be able to further expand now its presence in the Asian markets with the new owner. Jan Beckschäfer, CEO of the European Gimborn group: "With our new products for dogs and cats we have shown again and again in the past few years, that innovation and the love for the animals is at the heart of our company and its employees. Gimborn is now ideally positioned for dynamic, profitable and cash efficient growth."

Since 2013 the core business of Gimborn increased every year significantly while driving forward the established business with snacks, treats and cat litter, the successful launch of innovative product concepts, the international expansion as well as realizing significant growth in the end-consumer pet food online business. Since than the EBITDA rose considerably by over 40 percent.

The takeover will have no impact to the German production sites of Gimborn in Emmerich and Kelheim, with future expansions foreseen to meet the increasing demand. The company is posed by a growing number of employees.
